A walk around Corcubion's surroundings
Corcubion County is at a small peninsula at Corcubion Ría and is the begining of the final stage of the Way of St. James to Fisterra.
Around its strategic port, the village grew along the coast and forming covered balconies typical of fishing villages.
This walk will guide you trough the non-urban part of the county.
Distance: 9.5 km.
Time: 2-3 hours walking. It can be done by car, also. But we do recommend a walk or a bike ride.
- We begin our walk at Praza de Castelao. We follow the marine walk, heading to the port.
- 0.8 Km. We keep walking (Placido Castro Rivas promenade) up to Quenxe Beach.
- 1.1 Km. Once in Quenxe, take the road above the estate. Pay attention and you will notice a pair of stone water mills.
- The road keeps going and you will have the chance to see beatiful views of the Corcubion Ría.
- 2.1 Km. On your right you will see the Cardinal's Castle (Castelo do Cardeal).
- 3.7 Km. You get to a crossroad; turn to the right. We will see the soccer field and a bit further ahead, the Cape Cee Lighthouse. Nice views of Pindo Mountain, Lobeiras Islands and Fisterra Peninsula.
- We go back to the crossroad and know take the other direction.
- 5.8 Km. We get to Redonda. Keep walking.
- 6.2 Km. We get to the Romanesque Church of St. Peter of Redonda. It is a very quite place with a stone cross worth a visit.
- Redonda is a rural parish where we can see many cabaceiras (typical galician granaries) and other folk architecture. There are great views of the Corcubion and Fisterra coastline.
- 7.9 Km. Keep walking up to the Corcubion's Pilmgrim Lodge.
- Reach the main road to Fistera, cross it and keep walking.
- 8.4 Km. We get to Lugariño do Vilar, with many cabaceiras and folk architecture.
- Take the Way of St. James down its way to San Marcos (Corcubion downtown). If we go by car, we will have to take the main road (AC-552).
- 9.5 Km. We get to Corcubion, crossing the Campo de San Antonio. End of the walk.
