Urban Hike in Corcubion
Corcubion is made of two parishes: San Marcos and Redonda.
San Marcos is the urban area where we suggest the following walk.
- We start in Praza de Castelo, the main square in Corcubion.
- In front of it, crossing the road, we have Don Benigno Lago's viewpoint.
- Keep walking on the promenade, heading to Cee. We will see on our right the bourgeois buildings. We can stop at Don Ramón Pais' Viewpoint to enjoy a nice view of the village and the Corcubion Ría.
- Get to the Cee-Corcubion Border, a little bit ahead of El Horreo Hotel. Take the steep road on your left.
- Keep walking, following the Way of St. James (pay atention to the yellow arrow). We will get to the Alameda, where we can see the Corcubion Ría and Pindo Mountain.
- Take the street on on the right.
- We get to San Antonio, where we can see a stone cross and a chapel from the XII century.
- Head towards the coas, taking a steep street (Rúa Perigos). There are some interesting buildings on it.
- We get to Rúa de Rafael Juan and keep going up to Rúa Antonio Porrúa. We will see good examples of traditional houses. We can see urban mansions like casa Castrexe (or Pazo dos Dios e Pose) and the Pilar Chapel.
- We go again to Praza de Castelao. On our way, we can see Casa Miñons and the public fountain.
- From there we can visit Jose Carrera Building, which is where the City Council is, and the municipal market.
- From Castelao Squeare, we encourage you to visit the "backyard" of Corcubion. It is very easy to find your way around, always with the coastline as the reference point.
- Looking south, there are three diferent streets we can take:
- The closest one to the sea is Rúa San Marcos, where we can see Pazo of Altamira Count. Keep going and you will get to Párroco Francisco Sánchez Square, where the Church of San Mark of Corcubion is. This is one of the most beatiful places in town. Take Rúa das Mercés up to a small square where you can see a mansion.
- We then get to Campo do Rollo, a place where kids from the village play. Walk around and try to discover its hidden spots. From there we can see the Pazo dos Traba.
- Go back to Campo do Rollo and head north to see the Old Court. Going right, we get to Médico Carrera Square, where you will find the only bakery in Corcubion, Casa Sendon and some other examples of traditional houses.
- Go back again to Castelao Square and head to the Port of Corcubion to visit the Old Jail. At the port we can see typical boats, nasas and other fishing tools. This is where the fish market and the Nautical Club are.
- You can keep walking up to Quenxe Beach and then go back to downtown, to Castelao Square and finish this urban walk.
