The name Fisterra comes from Finisterrae, meaning the "End of the land" in latin. There area other finis terrae in the European Atlantic Coast, as the one in Bretagne.
The cape is very close to Fisterra downtown and it is a nice walk. It is alsothe place where pilgrims should burn their boots, the last stage of the Way of St. James.
Before getting to the lighthouse we can take a break and visit the Fisterra Cementery, design by César Portela, finalist in the 2003 Mies Van der Rohe Architecture Awards. Unfortunaly, there are no signs and you will have to pay some attention to notice the cementery. You will recognize it by its white cubic shapes looking quietly to the sea.
The best time of the day to get to Fisterra Cape is at dusk, when the sun slowly dies on the ocean (check sunset time for today)
Fisterra Cape has a lighthouse which is part of the Lighthouses Route.
