Numerous shipwrecks have happened in the Cape Vilan area. The most famous shrunk ship was the "Serpent", in 1890. Due to this accident, the old lighthouse on the cape was improved, being the first one in the Iberian Peninsula to use electricity.
The shipwreck killed 254 people from a training ship. The recovered bodies were buried in the English Cemetery. Every year, a ship from the British Navy arrives to the place of the accident and honour those who died with a volley of gunfire.
It is a spectacular viewpoint of the wild sea of our coast.
There is a dirt track very close to the cape, which makes a beautiful 3 hour walk along the coastline.
There is a lighthouse which is part of the Lighthouses Route.
